Residents of BF Homes-Las Piñas will soon have a
regular supply of
water after the city government and Maynilad Water Services Inc. agreed
to resume laying water pipes in the area, Mayor Vergel Aguilar and
Maynilad president Rogelio Singson said yesterday.
The groundbreaking for the pipe-laying project
was held at the BF
Thai subdivision.
Aguilar said initially, each homeowner will have to shoulder a P500
guarantor fee. Apart from that, they will also have to pay P500 monthly
for 48 months (120 days) as pipe-laying and connection fee on top of
their monthly water consumption.
“Some 3,500 households in 15 out of the 23 enclaves are the initial
beneficiaries. These include residents of BF Thai, BF Mariposa, West and
Eva Executive, and the others will follow,” he said.
Earlier reports said Aguilar brokered a settlement between Maynilad
and developer BF Homes Inc. (BFHI) ending several months’ standoff over
legal issues surrounding the water firm’s road-diggings and pipe-laying
activities in the Las Piñas part of BF Homes subdivision.
Aguilar said part of the agreement is for Maynilad to compensate BFHI
for the right of way given the pipe installation activities as they are
set to undertake in the identified areas.
Residents then called Aguilar to use his police power to facilitate
the entry of Maynilad services into the subdivision’s Las Piñas portion.
This developed after Maynilad suspended its activities in the
subdivision after someone from the BFHI stepped in and claimed the
streets affected by diggings, are private properties.
However, Aguilar rejected the idea, calling it absurd and illogical.
